Roll On Roll Off Structures

Cass Hayward has extensive experience of designing roll on, roll off structures for port applications. These comprise many different types of articulating structures that have to be modelled to suit fit to a range of specific ships in different operating modes at the berth.

Twin new double-deck facilities were completed as consecutive contracts with our designs for Holyhead Salt Island Terminals 3 and 5 and our projects include floating bridges for Parkeston Quay Berth 8, Heysham No. 2 Berth, Holyhead and two facilities for chieftain tanks at Marchwood Military Port. Upper deck extensions for two tier operation at Dublin Berth No 45 and 49 and for Poole No 3 Upper Deck Extension proved especially challenging in achieving the three dimensional range of movements of the decks.

At Dover our design for the Catamaran Berth was adapted for use by fast ferries and relocation in the Western Docks and we have designed passenger access facilities for number 3 berth and the cruise terminal. We prepared the original project specification design for Iarnród Éireann for the recent replacement of Berth 2 at Rosslare and have acted as design checker for ro ro projects at Milford Haven, Ipswich, Liverpool and Harwich.
